Functional Finances
“We have the experience and flexibility to ensure you get your business efficient, and its obligations met.”
John Kostaras, Director

With beginnings in a small public practice, I was exposed to a significant number of varying industries and clients ranging from small investors to pharmacies, manufacturing and large-scale construction businesses, to multiple entity multi-million dollar businesses.
After 6 years I moved into industry – construction – being both involved with accounting & financial, asset maintenance, systems and processes but also outside, putting up buildings and learning how the business’ operation related to the numbers. Through this period I finished a CPA Qualification.
This built upon a philosophy that by having a thorough understanding of a client’s business builds a relationship between the accountant and the client. It also enables one to deliver clear, relevant, informed and experienced advice.
Understanding a business from the inside enables a business savvy opinion. I understand only too well the experience of juggling one too many tasks; how difficult it can be to meet obligations and deadlines on time; and what it is like to be putting out spot fires whilst trying to maintain the calm needed for efficient and smooth operation of a business. A simple example of this includes providing a useful syntax for numbering a client’s projects. A complex solution can be demonstrated through tax planning and the construction of complex forecasting tools for businesses to use.
Industry experience provides many lessons; losing your own resources means you can establish systems to reduce waste and increase efficiencies; negotiating and soft skills learnt through real negotiation with numerous stake-holders on multi-million dollar projects builds character and experience in anticipating and understanding numerous points of view, and numerous resources at stake.
Getting one’s hands dirty and being involved in not only a passionate, but invested capacity develops a level of understanding which is not learnt through simple data entry and calculations.
After gaining inside and outside experience in businesses, I moved to a boutique consulting firm and furthered my technical knowledge and experience with large-group businesses. After several years in a Melbourne boutique setting, it was time to become involved with the people again.
With the creation of Mesa Financial, I have been able to culminate all of these years of experience together to offer people a highly-personalised, efficient and shrewd service to business that value quality and sound advice.
In opening my own business am able to work directly with people and the directness and efficiency I can offer as an independent I will be able to help you help your business.
